Apakah itu Show Choir?

Anda mungkin pernah mendengar perkataan Show Choir atau mungkin anda pernah menonton siri TV yang terkenal GLEE, atau mungkin anda pernah terlihat poster atau promosi kami, tetapi adakah anda tahu apakah itu Show Choir?

Susunan yang menarik, tarian yang serentak, melodi dan harmoni yang cukup sempurna, dan acapkali dengan beberapa gabungan atau medley lagu. Inilah dunia Show Choir masa kini. Di Amerika, tradisi ini telah begitu lama di praktikkan namun di Malaysia, ia masih satu konsep yang baru.

Penerangan yang paling mudah untuk mendefinisikan Show Choir adalah ia adalah permulaan bagi teater muzikal. Sebagai ahli Show Choir anda akan dilatih untuk menyanyi, menari dan berlakon. Tidak seperti koir traditional yang menggunakan gerak tari yang minimal atau tanpa sebarang gerak tari, ahli Show Choir perlulah bersedia untuk melakukan gerak tari sepenuhnya yang seringkali mengikut tema atau jalan cerita tersendiri. Dan apa yang lebih menarik, sedang mereka menari, mereka juga perlu memastikan untuk menyanyi sama seperti, malahan adakalanya lebih baik dari koir tradisi.

Ahli Show Choir perlu bekerjasama untuk menghasilkan keharmonian bukan sahaja pada nyanyian tetapi juga pada pergerakan dan gerak tari mereka. Tetapi, apa yang lebih penting kepada suatu persembahan Show Choir, ada lah prosesnya itu sendiri. Pengalaman dalam Show Choir akan meningkatkan keyakinan diri serta menggalakkan kerjasama berkumpulan.

Show Choir bermula di Amerika Syarikat pada pertengahan 1960an meskipun sejarawan budaya tidak dapat mengenal pasti tarikh dan lokasi untuk kumpulan Show Choir yang pertama. Dua kumpulan persembahan yang mengembara, bermula dengan  The Young Americans pada 1962 dan diikuti dengan Up with People pada 1968, mengembara ke seluruh negara dalam tahun 1960an dan 1970an denagn konsep Show Choir. Apabila pelajar dan pengarah melihat persembahan ini, mereka pula memulakan kumpulan yang serupa di sekolah tinggi masing-masing.

Broadway Academy telah pun menjalankan program ini selama lebih 5 tahun. Kami telah menghasilakn lebih dari sedozen showcase dengan tema dan jalan cerita yang unik. Silibus dan cara latihan kami di Broadway Academy adalah berdasarkan budaya Show Choir yang amat meriah di Amerika. Program kami dihasikan berdasarkan garis panduan FAME Show Choir dan kami menyasarkan untuk menghasilakan pelajar yang versatil serta serba boleh dalam bidang nyanyian, tarian dan lakonan. Para pelajar kami didedahkan dengan pelbagai genre dari Choir Klasik ke Jazz, Broadway, Pop dan macam macam lagi.

Kami kini sedang mencari ahli baru untuk kumpulan Show Choir kami! Penyertaan di buka kepada semua yang berusia antara 13 tahun hingga 25 tahun. Sesi kelas kami adalah pada hari Sabtu, 1:30pm ke 3:00pm. 

Kelas dijalankan secara musim. Setiap musim terdapat 3 semester (October - September). Dalam setiap musim, anda boleh nantikan pelbagai persembahan, malahan acara dan pertandingan di luar negara! Why BATS ?

Good Morning Everyone ... hope you all got a good rest ... so 2013 is just around the corner and BA is pretty sure everyone is excited in welcoming the new year ... and so are we here at Broadway Academy Talent School (BATS) with our January intake. We have been shouting out on our Facebook and Twitter, and also flyers have been sent out and banners are up as well. Hope our banner is not playing Where's Wally with you out there.

So here we go , our January 2013 intake is already open for registrations, with 4 levels of show choir classes, and we have drama classes , broadway dance class and also musical theater. BATS is also having elementary musical theater and children's show choir for kids. Start young , thats the spirit and trust us, it really helps your child develop.

Lets talk about our courses, as our name itself says it "Broadway" , our programs are designed more towards the American way of education whereby we focus on "skills" learned rather than just a certificate. We all know the case where everyone has a certificate but to actually do the job at hand is a whole different story. That is the point that we want to stress here at Broadway Academy, its not just about hanging a nice certificate on the wall, but actually perform and be a performer. Of course if someone walks in and says "i wanna learn singing or and instrument and I want to go through certification for it" - we can arrange for that. But we want you to learn things with the fun element and  not being "stress" - "oh no .. i have 2 more weeks to my test , what if I don't make it " - its no fun it that line keeps bugging you and every time you come for lessons, its stressful. Right ? ? ?

Lets take our vocal lessons for example, we have levels that the student have to go through and at the end of each period the students will have to do a mini recital or performance. And BATS will have a panel there at the end of the show to see how far the student has progressed and to see if he/she is able to cope to the next level. Don't worry, you wont have judges like in those competitions who will put you down and say " You can't sing to save your life " - No....... Its more of them giving their opinions and views to the student. Then we proceed to see if they proceed to the next level and what needs to be fixed. So that's how it works.

Next question .... " but i don't want to perform , i'm scared ... ". This is the next important step that BATS want all their students to be good at , being a performer. You may think that being a performer is merely performing on stage, that's not true. When you perform on stage - you actually gain a lot besides performing. Just standing on stage facing the audience - you have enough courage to face audience - stage fright gone - confident level increases. Then performing on stage - you concentration and focus level increases - don't think singing out lyrics and audience interaction is easy - its not. These are among the points that we want our students to have. And these skills will also be useful outside of the performing arts arena.
